Google is the largest search engine for sure and after that comes Yahoo at a strong second place. Both these search engines have dominated the search market. Its not enough if you are getting traffic only from Google but you should also get more traffic from Yahoo, more traffic sources makes the blog/website very stable. What he says there is not that accurate, many think that the search algorithms of Google and Yahoo are not the same but with the seo knowledge I have and the analysis that I have done, may be some parts of the algorithm may be different but the major part is same and that major part is that both the search algorithms depend on content and incoming links to determine who is better. Yes, both Google and Yahoo decide which page is better than the other based on the content and the number of other web pages linking to that page.
Many web pages which have topped in Google have also topped in Yahoo for a particular keyword but it is a bit slow on Yahoo, thats all. After a little amount of time I saw that by doing the same SEO for both Yahoo and Google, the pages topped for the search results.
SEO tips for Yahoo
Here are the most common seo tips which are not practised commonly.
- Repeat the main keyword in your content. A guy from my city once asked me why he didn’t come on top for a particular keyword, even though his domain name and title were all related to it (bollywood gossip), but after looking at his site I didn’t see bollywood gossip written once on the content in his site and immediately told him to include keywords like that.
- Write something useful which people link to. On top you see I linked to Sunil to create an active discussion. He had a pretty good post over at his blog that engaged me to write this to help the blogging community and thus I did. Though I differ with the tips he gives, the post looked interesting.
- Meta tags are for the old days. Yes, no search engine really bothers about meta tags these days, so don’t waste time on them.
- For Yahoo SEO or Google SEO, the title tag is very important. You should put the main keywords in the title tag for better ranking.
- Most of the SEO guys will agree to this that the keyword in the domain name is also an important factor but this is not the most important thing either, just saves a little work while doing seo.
The above are like the Golden rules of SEO that I follow, do you know anything more than this which can help? There were also some other seo tips which I ignored like including a no follow tags to external links.
BTW not only Google but Yahoo also adheres to the no follow. If you add a no follow to a link then Yahoo won’t consider it as an editorial vote to another website. This was the initiative taken by all major search engines to reduce comment spamming. You will observe that in most blogs like wordpress and blogger, a rel no follow will be added to any link put up. But there are some blogs called do follow blogs which don’t add this (to promote people commenting on it, duh!!)
